About Astrid Stavro
Astrid Stavro was born in Trieste, Italy and studied graphic design at Central Saint Martins College of Art & Design in London, where she received her Bachelor of Arts (Hons) with a First Class Certificate. She went on to study a Master of Arts at The Royal College of Art, graduating with Distinction in 2004. Stavro then moved to Barcelona where she founded and directed the award winning Astrid Stavro Studio for ten years. She has an international reputation for idea-based design, applied with exquisite typographic sensibility and attention to craft. In 2013 she founded the design firm Atlas alongside Pablo Martín, working from offices in Palma de Mallorca and New York.
Stavro’s wide-ranging expertise encompasses the design of books, magazines, brand identities, posters, exhibitions, signage and packaging. Clients include Phaidon, Camper, Laurence King, Lars Müller Publishers, Wallpaper*, CCCB (Barcelona’s Center of Contemporary Art) and the Barcelona Design Museum amongst many others.
She lectures extensively on design related subjects across the globe and has chaired and judged the most prestigious international design competitions. Her work has been recognized with more than 200 design awards, including D&AD, AIGA, ADC (Art Directors Club of NY), TDC (Type Directors Club of NY), SPD (Society of Publication Designers), Graphis, ISTD (International Society of Publication Designers), The Annual (Creative Review), Design Week Awards, ADC*E (The Art Directors Club of Europe) and the Spanish Laus Awards.
Stavro’s work has been repeatedly featured and profiled in specialized and mainstream books and publications, including Eye magazine, I.D., Print, Wallpaper*, The Guardian, El País, Creative Review, Domus and Grafik as well as books by Phaidon, Thames & Hudson, Rizzoli and Laurence King. She has written for some of the top international design Journals and is currently the Art Director and Editor at large of Elephant magazine.
Stavro is a member of Alliance Graphique Internationale (AGI), the world’s most prestigious design association.
